Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Processor – Full Review, Specification, and Benchmarks

If you are curious to see information about the q6600 processor, then you are at the right place. Here we will show you the full specification of the Intel Core 2 Quad q6600 processor. It includes a full review, features, advantages, and disadvantages. So you can make your purchase decision if you want to buy it.

Let’s start from its specification first,

Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600 Specification

This processor was released by Intel on 8 January 2007, and it is one of the best performing processors at that time. This processor introduced there entails Core 2 duo processors are our best-selling. But when Intel introduced this Q6600 to the world, it went trending at that time.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Processor

The Core i3 and i5 series processors have more power and perform better than the Core 2 Duo processor, but they are very expensive to purchase. Also, this processor requires different socket types, therefore you cannot use that processor with LGA 775 socket motherboards. To solve that Problem, Intel introduced the Q6600 processor for old LGA775 motherboards.

This processor’s lithography is based on 65 nm, which is the same as Core 2 duo processors. But the best thing about this processor is it has 4 cores and 4 threads, which is the advantage here. Because in core 2 duo processors we only have 2 cores and 2 threads. That’s why the Q6600 performs better than the C2D processor.

This processor has a base frequency of 2.40 GHz and the bus speed is 1066 MHz. The TDP required for this processor is 105 Watt. It supports LGA775 socket types. And it is best on Intel 64 architecture, so you can easily run a 64-bit operating system without any problem.

Operating System

Supported operating systems for Q6600 are Windows XP,  Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10. Also, it supports both 32bit and 64bit operating systems. You can also run the Linux operating system on it.

Motherboard Option

For this Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor, the LGA775 motherboard is supported, so you can use any LGA 775 socket motherboard. If you have an old Core 2 Duo machine at home, then you can check its motherboard. There is a possibility that it has this socket type. If you don’t have a motherboard, then it is available online. This motherboard is available at a cheap price, so you can purchase it without paying too much money. There are a few of these types of motherboards available online For purchase.

RAM compatibility

This Core 2 Quad processor is Compatible with lga775 socket-type motherboards.  This type of motherboard is either DDR2 or DDR3 type RAM.  Some old motherboards only supported DDR2 and a few latest one supported DDR3 3 at this time.  The best thing about Q6600 is it Compatible with both the DDR2 and DDR 3 type motherboards.

Overclocking Q6600

As we saw before, this processor has the best frequency of 2.40 GHz. If you want to overclock it, then you can overclock this processor up to 3 GHz. There are also options to overclock it to 2.8 GHz. But you cannot overclock it like 3.4 or 4 GHz.  Because if you do that then the processor will take too much load, there will be chances of damage. So overclocking it up to 3 GHz is the best choice.

Graphic Card Option

For this CPU, you need to add a dedicated graphics card to show the display. Yes, this motherboard does not have a graphics core, that’s why it required a separator graphic. There are also motherboards with onboard graphics that also work. This processor does not require a high-end graphics card to work. You can use any 1 GB or more graphic card. The list of compatible graphic cards is as follows.

Intel Q6600 compatible graphics card

Nvidia’s graphics card compatible with a core 2 quad Q6600 processor. But you can also use an AMD graphic card. It supports any 1 GB to 4 GB AMD graphic card without any problem.

Compatible games with Q6600

As mentioned above, it requires a dedicated graphics card, and it has 4 cores and 4 threads.  That’s why it is comfortable for gaming. If you have any 2 GB or 4 GB graphics cards installed, then you can play modern games on it.

Nowadays, there are a variety of games available to play on a computer and his game required a high configuration PC.  But in the Q6600 processor, you can also play these modern games with medium settings like 720p high.  For some games, you can also use high settings like 1080 Low.

Final Thoughts

If you have an old core 2 duo PC then you can replace its processor with a Q6600 quad-core and use it as a secondary PC. But if you want a pc that can sustain a heavy workload then go for a new pc build or at least a 6th generation i3 or i5 processor. Because these processors are capable of handling more tasks than old processors.
